Blundell School is a co-educational independent school for students aged three to 18, dedicated to providing an education that extends beyond exam results. The school emphasises the importance of making a positive impact on the community and leading lives of purpose, fulfilment, and significance. Set in an idyllic location, Blundell offers exceptional facilities, including a heated outdoor pool, a theatre, and a state-of-the-art recording studio.
CHALLENGE
The school sought a new acoustic ceiling for its maths classrooms, prioritising optimal acoustic performance to create a comfortable, productive learning environment. In addition to excellent sound control, the clients wanted a ceiling tile that would offer a bright, modern, and clean aesthetic. The installation needed to be completed efficiently during the school holidays to minimise disruption while students were away.
SOLUTION
To meet the school’s requirements for both acoustic performance and aesthetics, main contractors Harris Bros and Collard, in collaboration with architects Inspired Partnership Ltd, selected Zentia’s Oplia hA ceiling tiles. These tiles provide Class A sound absorption, ensuring an optimal acoustic environment for the maths classrooms, while their 85% light reflectance enhances natural brightness, contributing to improved user wellbeing and productivity.
The installation, carried out by DB Commercial Interiors, was completed during the summer holidays to avoid any disruption to the students. Zentia’s Architectural and Design team also provided specification assistance, ensuring that Oplia hA boards met both the technical and design needs of the project, delivering a clean, contemporary white finish alongside superior sound absorption.
The successful installation of Zentia’s Oplia hA ceiling tiles at Blundell School has significantly enhanced the acoustic and visual environment of the maths classrooms. By providing Class A sound absorption and a bright, modern finish, the new ceiling system supports both student productivity and overall wellbeing, allowing the school to achieve its aims of academic success and personal growth.
