IONITY Opens First High-Power EV Charging Site In Northern Ireland

An IONITY EV charging hub has been unveiled at Toome motorway service station.

The site, supported by NIE Networks is located just off the A6 with the six new change points provide charging at up to 350kW.

IONITY has also revealed that it will add further charge points in the future depending on demand with construction already underway of another charging site at The Kennedy Centre in Belfast.

“Opening our first site in Northern Ireland is an exciting nod to our investment in the country to help decarbonise mobility and make EV charging accessible to everyone visiting or living in Northern Ireland,” said Andreas Atkins, IONITY’s Country Manager of UK and Ireland.

“We wanted to partner with a site that already had amenities available to customers, so they can charge their EV’s whilst grabbing a bite to eat or a coffee.”

Ian Craig, Major Projects Stakeholder Lead at NIE Networks added: “NIE Networks is delighted to play our part in helping Northern Ireland move towards Net Zero by connecting the first high powered EV Charging site in Toome. We are willing and ready to support the move towards greener energy and drive real noticeable change for local people.”

Thanks to a live data partnership with Zapmap, users of the Zapmap app and web map can see real-time availability and status information of IONITY charge points, making planning for charging stops simpler.
