McQuillan Companies led the drive for one hundred and thirty thousand pounds with friends and colleagues from the NI business community following their biennial Golf Classic for the Children’s Cancer Unity Charity.
The event, which took place at Rockmount Golf Club was attended by over 250 golfers, was organised by a group of local businessmen who make up the CCUC Golf Committee. This is the 5th event of its kind, which sees all funds go to the Children’s Cancer Unit at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children, having raised well over half a million pound since its establishment in 2014.
Speaking at the fundraising presentation, Johnny McQuillan of McQuillan Companies said: “This year’s event was a drive to break the £100,000 mark for the second time, and we’re delighted to have smashed this target.
“All the money we raise goes directly to the Children’s Cancer Unit Charity and used exclusively to support the medical team and families affected by childhood cancer in Northern Ireland.
“This target and the final figure of over £130,000 could not have been achieved without the support and generosity of suppliers and subcontractors to McQuillan Companies, as well as many others, and we thank them for that.”
The Children’s Cancer Unit Charity supports the work of the medical team and staff at the Children’s Haematology and Oncology Unit at the Royal. Every year, between 60 – 70 children are diagnosed with cancer in Northern Ireland, and each of these children are treated at the unit which is the specialist centre for cancer care for children.
Jane Hoare, Chief Executive Officer at the Children’s Cancer Unit Charity added: “The Golf Classic has quickly become a key feature in the CCUC fundraising calendar, and the funds raised make a huge difference to families affected by childhood cancer across Northern Ireland.
“We cannot thank the Committee and all those who took part enough for their ongoing support. This and previous events have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds directly to help kids living with cancer.”
The CCUC Golf Committee is made up of; Chair, Felix Mooney, Dunadry Development Company, Johnny McQuillan from McQuillan Companies, John Morgan from Panther Purchasing, Steven Kher, Owner of Flame Restaurant, Malcolm Macfarlane from Serviced Apartments in Belfast, and David Hassard.
